SolarLab Workshop in Groningen brought the community together for a day of learning and networking 🌞

On July 7, the University of Groningen welcomed members of the SolarLab community to the yearly SolarLab Workshop, hosted at the Feringa Building on the Zernike Campus. The event brought together researchers for a full day of scientific exchange, hands-on learning, and career development.

The morning programme was dedicated to PhD students, who started the day with a tour of the Groningen SolarLab before taking part in an interactive hands-on simulation workshop on solar cell characterization. Equipped with their laptops, participants explored simulation tools and gained practical experience with techniques used in photovoltaic research.

Following a networking lunch, the workshop opened to the wider SolarLab community for an inspiring afternoon programme. A career panel featuring speakers from diverse backgrounds—including academic research, science communication, management, and entrepreneurship—offered valuable insights into the many career paths available within and beyond academia. The lively discussion encouraged participants to reflect on their own professional ambitions and engage with experienced professionals from across the field.

The afternoon continued with a poster session, where PhD researchers presented their latest work to fellow researchers and industry partners. The session sparked engaging scientific discussions, fostered new connections, and showcased the breadth of research taking place within the SolarLab community. Networking drinks and an award ceremony rounded off the day, celebrating both the scientific achievements and the collaborative spirit of the community.

The SolarLab Groningen Workshop highlighted the importance of bringing together researchers from different disciplines and career stages. By combining scientific training, networking, and career development, the event reinforced SolarLab's commitment to building a strong, connected, and innovative solar energy research community.

We thank everyone who joined us in Groningen and look forward to the next SolarLab event!
